The Journey Begins

It sure has been a long road to get here. After ten months of drafting and six months of editing, my debut novel Legacy.exe is ready to be released into the world. I never expected I'd make another serious attempt at self-publishing again, and I'm sure I wouldn't have if not for all of the amazing encouragement and support I received from my community.
I'm so fortunate to have found a collective of authors who are just as passionate about science fiction and fantasy as I am, a group dedicated to inclusivity and collaboration. Our weekly meetings have become a big highlight for me, and I'm grateful every day for each and every one of you.
Most of all I'd like to thank my writing group senpais, Liv and Sterling, for blazing the self-publishing trail and providing their hard-earned expertise. If not for them, and for all of you, Legacy.exe would have become just another trunk novel, never to see the light of day.
This project began in July of 2023, shortly after my move from Jersey City to Kansas City. At first it was just for me, a creative outlet I could work on in my spare time, something that incorporated all of my favorite character archetypes and tropes from the movies and Saturday morning cartoons I grew up with in the nineties and early noughties. It changed and evolved a lot along the way, as stories often do, but I couldn't be more proud of the final result.
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) features very heavily in this novel, since it directly affects our main characters. This a creative decision I did not make lightly, and it required a lot of research to portray in as accurate and respectful a manner as I possibly could.
In the course of this research, I found another community. Channels on YouTube such as the CTAD Clinic, DissociaDID, and the Entropy System seek to provide education and de-stigmatization for the DID community. This is an amazing group of people, and I would highly encourage you to check them out if you're the least bit curious. At time of writing, the Entropy System is trying to get over the hump to 60,000 subscribers, so maybe go and give them a boost.
But with the thanks out of the way, let's look ahead toward the future. Legacy.exe is due to release March 30th on Amazon and other platforms in e-book, paperback, hardcover, and audiobook. I am stoked to have found a talented voice actress for the narration, and I'm eager to share the results of that collaboration in a few months' time.
I'm also hard at work drafting the sequel, Humanity.exe, which I aim to have ready for release later this year. 2025 is bound to be memorable, and not just because of what's happening in my small corner of the globe. This is a scary time for those of us in the States, but hopefully we can hold on to the things that bring us together in comfort.
It's February 1st as I write this, so a little late for a 'Happy New Year's,' but I do genuinely wish each and every one of you reading this a happy and successful year. To my fellow writers, I'm eager to see you meet your creative goals for this year, whatever they may be. To my friends and family, I'd like to thank you all once again.
Now, let's make 2025 a good year!
